I was just discussing the word "meritocracy" with Brandon. I can't remember how we got on the topic; I think we were discussing unicorns and the conversation naturally went on from there. I came up with a sentence that I don't recall ever seeing before: "You persist in your charming delusion that the universe is a meritocracy." I'm going to have to use that again somewhere.
I mention this because immediately afterwards, I started work on a news segment for Bravo! in which one of the jurors on the Charles Taylor prize for Literary Non-Fiction said, "We were looking for an interesting book that would appeal to Canadians, and we were looking secondly for a well-written book."
Priorities, people.
"The unicorn is just a horse, excepting for its horn, of course.
The unicorn is just a myth -- which is to say, they don't exith."
