Finished working on that kung-fu movie tonight, and apparently the line, once you screen out the sound of the train chugging past, is "You should have left retribution." Presumably the other half of the sentence, "to the proper authorities," got left out somehow. It's that kind of movie.

Anyway, apart from that wonderful final scene, these things stand out about it:

The weird cultural juxtaposition brought about by the fact that that they used the immediately recognisable Nino Rota from The Godfather as part of the score.

One of the bad guys looks like a Chinese version of Corey Feldman with a badly dubbed Australian accent. When he and his brother were attacking the hero, I kept shouting, "Evil Coreys! No!!"

Anyone who still doesn't understand the difference between widescreen and fullscreen format should be made to watch the following sequence of shots:

  1. The villain glares at the hero in close-up.
  2. The hero glares at the villain in close-up.
  3. The villain and hero stand on opposite sides of the screen, framed in opposition to one another -- or at least this is presumably what the shot is meant to be, but because the edges of the picture have been chopped off so the picture will fill the entire screen, all we actually see is a shot of an empty field for five seconds.

On an unrelated note, hi to whoever's reading this blog from Springfield, Virginia; I hope you enjoyed The Simpsons Movie. Also, my horoscope for today tells me that the voices are talking directly to me. It's good to have confirmation.

yeah, that’s me from Springfield, VA. Haven’t seen the Simpsons movie yet oddly enough, but did see Transformers.

And it was your comment in James’s blog that made me realize I should read yours for fun.
