Never try to rub a tear out of your eye while your fingers are covered with crumbs from eating salt-and-vinegar kettle chips.

I'll do you one better. At an Indian restaurant, they have these little bowls of dried red pepper corns that you can sprinkle onto your food. I thought that they made an interesting sound as I tapped them in their bowl. My parents warned me that this was risky business, but I didn't realize how risky until I rubbed my eye about an hour later and realized why pepper spray is called PEPPER spray.
I can do one better (a la my husband) albeit not with respect to eyes. Never go to the bathroom after having just applied Tiger Balm ....
